One of the best things our program has done in the last ten years is bring
in Gary Boren for a day. He was a enlightening on his subject, free throws

time with us will help our program. We recommend him to any program that

We want to thank you for the tremendous work you did with our program. Our

and your system played a big role in that improvement. You have a unique
ability to isolate the key points to improving overall shooting and an
innovative system to teach those points.

Dear Gary,
It was nice visiting with you today, and I always enjoy talking about
shooting with you. I've crossed paths with many shooting instructors over
the years, and I learned more about foul shooting from you than anyone.
I know it is sometimes difficult to get through to some NBA or College
coaches, so please use this as a reference letter if you think it might
help.
I look forward to seeing you this summer in Hawaii. I'm sure you will
enjoy it, and you'll meet some good basketball people too - both players
and coaches. Plus, I think it adds to our camp to have you there. Thanks
for agreeing to come.

To Whom It May Concern:
Almost every game in the Pac-10 is determined by the slimmest of margins.
Playing in one of the most competitive conferences in the country, our
team has made it a priority to focus on a few key aspects in order to
increase our chances at victory. One of these keys to success has been
determined by what our team does on the free throw line. Gary Boren's
instructional free throw techniques and methods have been invaluable to
the development of our season.
A testament to the importance of Gary Boren's free throw break-down can be
seen in the free throw percentages of some of our key players. Currently,
our leading scorer, junior wingman Joe Shipp, has the highest free throw
percentage on the team, as hi is shooting 81.2% from the line. Starting
guard Shantay Legans has benefited from Gary Boren's techniques as the
junior is shooting almost 77% from the line. In addition, wingmen and
senior captains Ryany Forehan-Kelly and Dennis Gates have also played
important roles down the stretch from the line. Forehan-Kelly is shooting
74.3% while Gates has been shooting nearly 81%.
In the last few minutes, close games may come down to the offense or
defense, but in reality, if your team can knock down its free throws when
the game is on the line, you'll put the game out of reach for your
opponent. Gary Boren's instructional techniques for free throws have
allowed our team to establish a cushion in the final minutes of the game,
and has increased the confidence of our guys when they head to foul line.

and foul shooting in particular. My staff and I have implemented your
ideas and are already seeing results. It is truly exciting to see our

Your talk and demonstration has also provided the tools for us to coach
shooting better than ever before. This is obviously an ongoing process and
I look forward to a long term relationship with you. I truly believe we

Dear Gary,
When you first approached me for guidance I was willing to help because I
know there is a need for this service. The statistics prove that more
specialized instruction is required in this area which is threatening to
become an embarrassment to the game at both professional and collegiate
levels.
While working with you I have become convinced that the school and the
video will both be successful, primarily because of your focus,
determination and attention to detail. I will encourage my friends
throughout the NBA and at the college level to see you because I know they
will enjoy positive results from your instruction.
I've been coaching over 35 years now, within 15 at the NBA level. I've
crossed paths with many excellent foul shooters and coaches who are
experts in this area, but in my opinion, you are the best that I ever met.
Whether you are teaching a player how to shoot or a coach how to teach,
your ability to effectively communicate the knowledge that you have about
shooting is incredible.
Please feel free to use this letter if it will help in any way, or as
interested party to call me in Cleveland at 216-659-9100 for my personal

Dear Gary,
Thank you for coming to Pittsburgh and training our staff on the "Art" of
shooting free throws. We have already started to implement the program you
provided for our players and it is paying dividends. I know that your
influence will make a difference during our season as we will shoot better
from the line.
Our players have responded with a great deal of enthusiasm to the program.
They like seeing themselves shooting - many of them have never had their
free throws video taped. It is important that the players buy into the
program in order for it to be successful. Well, it is clear to me that
they are really excited about making the commitment to getting better and
the credit for that goes to your philosophies on how to teach proper free
throw shooting techniques.
I am sure that your history of success as a free throw shooting coach is
going to have an extremely positive influence on our program. Duquesne

To Whom It May Concern,
I am happy to recommend Gary Boren as an outstanding shooting instructor.
Gary spent time with me and my staff discussing all aspects of shooting.
The discussion was thought provoking and enlightening for me and my staff.
In the end we were very encouraged by all the different aspects of
shooting techniques that we have used and will use to teach our players
the art of free throw shooting.
Gary Boren's insightful way of presenting the facts about making free
throws with the statistical information to back up his philosophy and
video that allows you to see it for yourself makes his presentation
worthwhile for all players and coaches. Gary has had the opportunity to
work with some of the outstanding professional players and his techniques
have helped all of them. My staff and I are convinced that free throw
shooting is the key to winning all close ball games and can't be
emphasized enough.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing today to fully endorse Gary Boren as an
excellent teacher and coach of the art of shooting free throws. Gary
visited with our coaching staff in the off season and had a very positive
effect. He taught our coaches " how to coach our players" to shoot free
throws.
Gary's demonstration reveals the basic concepts of free throw shooting and
helps coaches and players visualize the perfect "repeatable" free throw.
His use of video is simple yet profound. Players can see their free throw
problems(s) and more readily accept the coaching.
Without reservation, I would encourage you to utilize Gary Boren to help
your team (players and coaches) with their free throw shooting.

Dear Gary,
I wanted to thank you for sharing your insight and analytical knowledge of
how to properly shoot free throws. Many coaches just give textbook
descriptions of shooting free throws. What impressed me most about your
teaching is that you cater to each individual.
Your video analysis and prompt feedback has enabled my staff to work on
simple subtleties with each of our players. I have noticed that increased
success at the free throw line has carried over to our players' jump
shots. I have always believed free throws win ball games. I frequently
stress this to my players. They now have added confidence with they step
up to shoot free throws.

Dear Gary,
The game of basketball has played a major role in my life, first as a
player, then as a college and professional coach, and now as an agent.
Although open-minded and always willing to learn, it has been a long time
since I have been exposed to anything significantly new or better in the
art of teaching the foul shot.
Your instruction, however, convinces me once again that "all the
hula-hoops" have not been invented. Not only do you possess a complete
command of all the fundamental elements of the shot (including three I've
never seen anywhere), but your teaching skills are superb and you can
demonstrate what you're talking about. I truly believe that any coach who
absorbs your teaching methods will improve his or her chance to win more
games, and any player who learns what you teach will improve their
performance at the line.
Foul shooting has deteriorated at all levels of basketball so what you
offer is timely. As you market your services, please use my name as a

To Whom It May Concern,
I am happy to recommend Gary Boren as a shooting instructor. I've been
coaching Division I Basketball for twenty five years and have used every
method known to man on helping my team improve their free throw shooting.
During the 1999-2000 season, my team shot a dismal 61% from the free throw
line and my best player shot 40%. One of my off season projects was to
research everything and anyone who could help my team shoot better free
throws. When I first got in contact with Mr. Boren, I was really impressed
with the people he had worked with and his passion for shooting, so I
decided to bring him to Utah State and help my staff and me. Gary's
inspirational way of presenting the facts about making free throws, and
his sound teaching techniques have tremendously improved my staffs
knowledge of teaching free throw shooting, which has had a direct result
in our team making more free throws. Currently we have improved as a team
by 8 percentage points and my best player has improved by 13 percentage
points.

To Whom It May Concern,
Gary Boren of the Dallas Mavericks worked with our basketball coaching
staff on free throw shooting before our season. He did a great job
speaking about free throw shooting and helping our staff put together a
practice routine and philosophy to help us with our players. Gary did not
work with any of our players individually because that is against the NCAA
rules.
But he did the next best thing. He taught us how to properly instruct our
players to improve their free throw shooting. As you know, when you
improve your free throw shooting, you also improve your perimeter
shooting. Our Virginia basketball team is presently shooting 74 percent in
all of our games and we are shooting 74.8 percent in our fifteen ACC games
this season. We made a big improvement from last season and Gary and his
free throw instruction have been a big part of our success. I would

To Whom It May Concern,
Gary Boren came to Yale University during the fall of this year. He spoke
with the coaches here at Yale about shooting, specifically, free throw
shooting. His presentation was tremendous. It is clear that Gary is an
expert on this subject and our coaches are all better off from this
meeting.
Gary really does an excellent job explaining how to teach the art of
shooting to your players. He knows how to help coaches get through to
their kids. He has worked with many NBA players and it is clear that those
who have worked with him are better shooters because of it. Gary has
studied free throw shooting in greater detail than anyone I have had the
opportunity to meet.
As coaches, we are all looking for that tiny edge on our competition. I
believe that meeting with Gary and then implementing his technique with
our players may help our team get an edge on the competition. Our staff
intends to implement his system with our players this year and I fully
expect our free throw shooting to improve because of it.
